Time management tips

calendar Learning to manage my time was a lifesaver for me after becoming a mom. In order for me to manage my time wisely and fairly, I plan. I am a fulltime college student and when I’m at home, I have to make time to study, take care of the baby, sometimes cook, and take care of myself, oh wait don’t forget to also spend time with the fiancé. When the baby was born, I had two weeks of class left. Having a newborn baby means sleep deprivation, and on top of everything I had to deal with college. I was taking online classes then. I was lucky to have Abel help with the baby the last two weeks of class.

  1. Life planner: I have a life planner and a large calendar in my room. I use my life planner to plan my whole day, from what I need to study to what I want to cook for dinner, so I know to take the chicken out to defrost. I bought my life planner from Erin Condren online store. I love all the stickers that come with the planner and that I can change the cover and personalized it.
  2. Calendar: I bought the calendar two years ago, and it has been very useful to me. I use my calendar mostly for school. The calendar I own is from the target, but any calendar would do. I write in the calendar the due dates for my homework, projects and assignment. I also write appointments and days I have off from school, that way I can easily see it, without looking into my planner.
  3.  Reminders: I also write reminders on my phone to remember things that need to be done at a specific time. such medications, appointments, or simply to remind me to buy groceries on my way home.

I use every bit of time off to the fullest. When I’m on the train, on my way home, I usually take that time to read for school. If I don’t have any assignments, I use that time on myself. I have an hour and thirty minutes break before my afternoon classes begin, and I take advantage of that time to make appointments, do homework, read (I have to read a lot for school), and eat. On the days that I get home earlier, I usually do the projects that take longer to do. Fridays are my day off from school, and that’s when I sleep in longer, write on my blog, and take care of myself. I try to deal with most of the schoolwork on the days that I attend school, to have Fridays free. On most Sundays I make Lexandry’s baby food and clean the apartment.

During the day, I try to make time for everyone individually, even though it’s difficult to do so. When I cook, I barely have time to spend with the baby. When I’m with the baby I barely have time to do anything else, until he falls asleep. Weekends are my favorite because I have time to spend with everyone and to do other things while the baby is with my mom or Abel. On a weeknight, I take out the clothes and accessories for the next day and also prepare Lexandry’s baby bag for the next day.

I am very lucky to have my mom and Abel to help with the baby and the house; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to do it all. Try to find a management technique that best fits your schedule and possibilities’. Remember to always give your love one’s time to cultivate the relationship, and to take care of yourself.time management

Tips on how to treat and prevent dry lips

treat dry lipsEver since I can remember I have struggled with dry lips. I could never find anything to help my lips from cracking. I love lipsticks, but I usually avoid using them because of my lips. I have tried every lip balm there is, to treat my dry lips.

About a year ago I started to exfoliate my lips, to get rid of the dead and dry skin. I exfoliate my face and my lips twice a week. I use the Sugar Lip Polish by Fresh to exfoliate the lips. I have also used my toothbrush to exfoliate my lips. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about buying the lip polish, but it has really worked for me and I prefer it to my toothbrush. I bought a set by Fresh about a year ago, which had the lip polish, the sugar advance therapy, and two other tinted treatment balms. After I exfoliate my lips, I apply the Sugar advance treatment, to hydrate them. I Truly love the Sugar balms, because besides hydrating my lips they also have SPF 15 in them.

After I brush my teeth in the morning I apply Vaseline lip therapy on my lips, to hydrate them, and prep them for when I want to apply lipstick. When I stay home I apply Vaseline throughout the day. Whenever I go out I use other lip balms, such as the EOS lip balm, Dior addict lip glow in 001, or the Sugar tinted balms. I usually remove the Vaseline to apply lipstick, because Vaseline can be heavy on the lips. I use the EOS balm under my lipstick, but I do always apply Vaseline first.

I keep the little Vaseline jar in my room, so I don’t forget to apply it. I keep the EOS balm, and the Dior lip glows in my purse at all times and leave the Vaseline at home. Hydrating the lips is key in having soft lips. Find the lip balm that works best for you, and remember to exfoliate your lips to remove the dead skin and allow the new skin to the surface.

Easter Bunny eleven month photo shoot

For lexandry’s eleven-month photo shoot, I decided to use the Easter Bunny themed since he will be turning eleven months on Monday the 28th, the day after Easter.I had the idea for an Easter Bunny themed photo shoot before Lexandry was born. I love spring and I feel like the easter bunny is the perfect way to represent it. I bought the bunny ears on sale at Toys R Us. The eggs are from a dollar store and the background is from Amazon. My mom and I usually buy everything ahead of time to make sure we have everything we need.

The idea was to have an easter bunny photo shoot, but Lexandry continued to take off the ears so we just took the rest of the pictures without the bunny ears. For the next set of pictures, we added a Bunny to represent the Easter Bunny. easter

Lexadry really enjoyed playing with the easter eggs. Is always nice to have him playing with something during the photo shoot so that he has fun as well? easter

In this last picture my mom was trying on the shirt Lexandry wore for his photo shoot with the Easter Bunny.

Kiss me I’m Irish St.Patrick’s Day themed photos

On St.Patrick’s Day people, celebrate the life and death of St. Patrick.  St.patrick’s day is a cultural and religious holiday, which also celebrates the Irish culture. Since Lexandry will grow up in a multicultural city, my mom and I thought it would be fun to embrace the Irish holidays, and have Lexandry’s ten month photoshoot be based on St.Patrick’s day. My son and I are not of Irish descendent, but I love to learn and celebrate different cultures.  St.Patricks daykiss me im irishSt.Patricks DaySt.Patricks Day   St.Patricks Day St.Patrick's day

We buy most of our holiday themed clothes at Babies R Us and Carters. The basket is actually a pumpkin basket I used on halloween to collect candy. My mom saved at and painted it black. The trevol stickers and coins are from the 99 cent store. The pictures were taken by mom and my fiance. As always it is import for the baby to have fun during the photoshoot so we allow him to play with the decorations. I will say as Lexandry gets more mobile it becomes more difficult to take pictures.

5 easy ways to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy

stretch marcks

In order to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, is important to understand what causes them. Stretch marks can be hereditary. Stretch marks are more likely to appear during  pregnancy,  puberty, and during periods of rapid weight loss or rapid weight gain.  I am 9 months postpartum and I have no stretch mark on my belly and no new ones on the areas that I already had the stretch mark.

  1. Hydrate:  Drink plenty of water, to keep the body hydrated from the inside. During pregnancy your body needs more fluids, so is important to drink water. Drinking plenty of water will also help your body retain less water. Retaining water liquids is one of the reasons we swell during pregnancy. Also, hydrate the body by applying lotion and oils.  During pregnancy the belly, hips and breast, are the areas of the body, which tend to change the most. I used Aveeno body lotion to hydrate my arms and legs. At the end of the pregnancy, I switched to Palmer’s Cocoa butter because I felt it was more hydrating.I started to use Mama Mio Tummy rub butter and the Pregnancy Boob Tube at 8 weeks; after I found out I was pregnant. I had heard a lot about the brand and decided to try it. I first bought the starter kit, to try the product. The creams are very thick and hydrating. At 25 weeks I started to use Mustela Stretch Mark Double Action and the Specific Breast Support creams. I liked Mama Mio products, but I just wanted to try other products. I also thought Mustela would last longer than Mama Mio products, but in the term, it was the same. I like the smell of Mustela better, but I like Mama Mio’s consistency better.I used oils together with the cream and lotions. I loved Mama Special blend and Bio-oil. I liked applying oils at night before going to bed. I couldn’t decide which oil I liked more, so I would just use whichever one I felt like using. I used vitamin E mostly on my breast and hips. I used vitamin E oil to reduce the appearance of old stretch marks. I did notice a difference in these areas.
  2. Exfoliate: exfoliating helps prevent stretch marks because by exfoliating we get rid of dead skin, allowing for the new skin to the surface. I exfoliate twice a month by using a sugar-based scrub by Tree Hut. I like the Tree Hut scrub because is gentle and leaves the skin feeling soft and hydrated. On a daily basis, I would just use a regular luffa with Dove liquid soap as a gentle exfoliate. You can also create your own scrub using oils and sugar, or my especial favorite, coffee grounds and hair conditioner.
  3. Vitamin and Minerals: By taking our prenatal vitamins and eating healthy food we can also prevent stretch marks. Vitamin B2 and B3 help maintain and promote healthy skin. Collagen helps improve skin elasticity, which will, in turn, help the skin stretch without breaking. Vitamin C, silica, and zinc help with collagen production. Gelatin is not a vitamin but consuming gelatin can also boost the production of collagen. Vitamin E helps maintain the skin intact, by blocking free radicals. Vitamins C and vitamin A also block free radicals, which consume collagen.
  4. Increase blood circulation: Increasing blood circulation will help promote new skin tissues. We can increase blood circulation by exercising or keeping physically active. Massaging your skin using the lotions and oils. Massage the area in a circular motion to increase the blood flow.
  5. Gain weight slowly and stay physically active: One of the causes of stretch marks can be rapid weight gain. It is normal to gain weight during pregnancy as the belly grows. Our belly is not the only part of our body that gets bigger during pregnancy, and we must keep that in mind as well. By gaining weight slowly, we give our skin time to stretch and adapt to change. When I was pregnant I did not follow a diet, but I did try eating more nutritious. I wanted to make sure that whatever I ate helped both the baby and me. I stayed active by walking at least 30 minutes a day, or exercising at home. I write in more detail about my diet and physical activity in a separate post. products to prevent stretch marks

Consult your doctor on what exercises to try, and if it is safe for you to exercise. Also, ask about prenatal vitamins, and find out if is covered by your insurance. I gave the names of a couple of product I tried, but use any product you would like to try.
